Star Wars Resistance General Leia

For anyone wondering how much of the “resistance” ‘Star Wars: Resistance’ would actually give us during its run, it seems some new information may be shedding light on that very subject. According to Entertainment Weekly’s Anthony Breznican, the show will feature the very head of the resistance, General Leia Organa herself, who will be played by Rachel Butera (‘Tammy’s Tiny Tea Time’).

You can check out Butera’s confirmation of the news below as she spoke about it soon afterward on her official Twitter page:

It does makes sense for Leia to have a role in the series considering the timeline (set 6 months before ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’) and the subject matter, the “resistance” which we learn in the movies, books and comics that she spearheaded and has been shown to be the leader of in the two films we have seen of the sequel trilogy. Of course, this does not mean she will be a main character who appears in every episode, but an appearance now and then to give orders or give weight to a situation would be appreciated and understood.

In my opinion, this may be the best way to continue the legacy of Leia in the wake of Carrie Fisher’s passing. In animated form, a number of characters have different voice-actors (in fact, Leia has already had a different voice-actor portray her during ‘Star Wars: Rebels‘). It’s animated so you do not have to worry about uncanny valley-ish CGI to bring her back and you can carry on the character in her spirit while still being reverent to the work she did in live-action.

For now, though, we’ll just have to wait and see how they end up using General Leia on the series, as she was not seen in the first trailer (which you can check out below), but you can bet she will show up in the next one!
