Disenchantment

When Matt Groening decided to enter the world of fantasy with ‘Disenchantment,’ fans of his work on ‘The Simpsons‘ and ‘Futurama‘ were thrilled. Now, we have a new reason to be excited as it appears the new world is set in the same universe as ‘Futurama’ due to a time travel Easter Egg that pops up. Now, this isn’t a spoiler for the plot of the show but does give a brief hint of what to expect for a scene in the tenth episode of the first season.

If you don’t mind a quick little continuity Easter Egg that ties these shows together then read on as Princess Bean, the demon Luci, and their friendly elf Elfo all might someday find a way to meet with Fry and the rest of the Planet Express crew.

We already know that ‘The Simpsons’ existed as a cartoon show on ‘Futurama’ and had a crossover in an episode of ‘The Simpsons’ which could mean that they were directly connected, but this is our first hint at the fantasy world of Dreamland being part of things as well.

In the tenth episode titled “Dreamland Falls,” we see Luci showing King Zog using a magic ball to show recent events in Dreamland. However, in these images, there is a quick flash that shows Fry, Bender, and Professor Farnsworth on a ship. Fans will instantly recognize it as the Professor’s time machine from “The Late Philip J. Fry” that was in the sixth season of the series.

This doesn’t clarify when in the timeline Dreamland exists though as the time machine only pushes forward through time, we learn by the episode’s end that the universe is cylindrical, so they keep going until they arrive back in the present. This means that the events in ‘Disenchantment’ will have happened somewhere in this timeline but where exactly is a bit unclear.

Are you happy to hear that ‘Disenchantment’ is part of the ‘Futurama’ universe? Do you think the show takes place before, after, or during the events of Matt Groening’s popular science fiction series? Share your thoughts below!
