Marvel fans were floored when half their favorite heroes vanished at the end of ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ but believe it or not, the actors themselves may have been even more shocked, as they weren’t informed that their characters were going to vanish until those scenes were about to be filmed.  Sebastian Stan, a.k.a. Bucky Barnes a.k.a. The Winter Soldier a.k.a. The White Wolf, recalls that he wasn’t even told by one of the directors, Joe or Anthony Russo, but rather by his stunt double.

“Wait, I — I disappear? Okay, alright. Sure. No, we’re rolling, okay? I’ll just — will you tell me after. I’ll ask you later.”

This was an abridged account delivered on the Earth’s Mightiest Show podcast.  But he recounted a longer tale earlier this year at Wizard World Philadelphia.

“I remember the day on set and James Young, who is one of my talented, glorious stuntmen … on this film, came up to me and told me what was happening.

“And I was like, ‘maybe this is it.’ And I remember Anthony [Russo] was talking to everybody, and I was like, ‘Anthony, do- OK, I’ll wait. Uh, do- am I- uh, is this it?’

“And he was like ‘No, well, you know, maybe. But not really. Well, I don’t know.’ So, that’s the way that day went.”

Bucky, as you may remember was the first hero to vanish after Thanos snapped his fingers, so Stan really had to bring the pathos.  Perhaps that wasn’t fake as it sounds as though Stan really thought this might be the end of his adventures in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.  There was also some ensuing confusion for fans, as to why his bionic arm also vanished, but let’s just chalk that up to the same reason their clothes vanished.
