As a Marvel Studios film moves forward with production there are always new surprises that drop prior to release, and now we’ve learned that Numan Acar (‘Homeland’,’Prison Break’) has joined the cast of ‘Spider-Man: Far From Home.’ The actor hasn’t had too much genre work in the past with a sting on ‘The Great Wall,’ but before this, he has already shot scenes for both ‘Aladdin’ and ‘In the Shadows’ which will give him better footing for the movie.

While the role for this Turkish-born hasn’t been shared in detail at this time, his character is said to be named Dimitri.

Fans of the Wallcrawler might instantly remember that there is a Dimitri already in Marvel Comics. That Dimitri would be Dimitri Smerdyakov who is better known as Chameleon. The villain has been a thorn in Spider-Man’s side for years, and this could be how he is introduced to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

While there is always the chance that we’ll see a minor character named Dimitri appear, here’s how Marvel describes the supervillain:

“Dmitri Smerdyakov was the illegitimate son of the patriarch of the Russian Kravinoff family and a servant. His only friend growing up was Joe Cord, an American boy who once saved his life while his half-brother Sergei, the legitimate heir, and his father treated him with contempt and brutality. This scarred Dmitri so deeply that he repressed his very identity and came to believe he had been friends with Sergei instead. His loss of self led him to become a master of disguise and a Soviet spy. Initially, without super-powers, the Chameleon relied on his skills and a mixture of costumes and make-up to conceal his identity. He wore a multi-pocket disguise vest in which he kept the materials he would need to mask himself at short notice.”

With the movie set to take place in Europe, this could be an exciting area to introduce the master spy into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. With other spy movies such as ‘Black Widow‘ coming up and the introduction of Ghost in ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp’ who is an ex-S.H.I.E.L.D. spy and assassin, there are plenty of ways to make his role even more substantial outside of a third Spider-Man film.
