If you’ve loved Benedict Cumberbatch‘s work as Doctor Stephen Strange in ‘Doctor Strange‘ and ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ then you’ll be happy that a sequel is in the works! While we’ll likely see the good doctor appear in the still untitled ‘Avengers 4’, we still haven’t heard a peep from Marvel Studios about a ‘Doctor Strange 2‘. While most of the Marvel Cinematic Universe films that will take place after Phase 4 are still a mystery, Kevin Feige has confirmed that a sequel will happen though he couldn’t narrow down when we can see it.
Feige was asked about the film during a press junket for ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp’ which lead to the following response:
“Sometimes it’s where do those characters pop up? [Doctor] Strange, you know, whenever we do another Strange [movie], which we will do, it will be a number of years from the first Strange, and yet he’s a very big part of Infinity War. So it is just a good problem to have when you have too many beloved characters that people want to see more of, whilst keeping to our core belief that we need to keep exploring nuance and keep doing different types of things.”
Assuming it is filming in secret, the very earliest the film could be released is in 2020 which would still be considered a “number of years” even if that number is only 2. I suspect that with Cumberbatch’s success at bringing magic to the MCU it’ll be sooner than later until the Sorcerer Supreme returns to the big screen and I wouldn’t expect the wait to go beyond 2021.
Are you thrilled that we’ll be revisiting the magical world of ‘Doctor Strange’ in a second outing? Is there anyone still surprised that characters will return after the events of ‘Avengers 4’? Share your thoughts below, True Believers!
