Fans have been dying to see Hayley Atwell reprise her role as Peggy Carter ever since ‘Agent Carter’ was cancelled and now it seems the actress isn’t too excited to return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. From fitting into ‘Avengers 4‘, ‘Captain Marvel’, or a wishful thinking ‘Ant-Man Prequel‘ to an ongoing ‘Agent Carter’ series that would finally show the character become the founder of S.H.I.E.L.D., there are a lot of chances for her to return. However, Atwell seems to think that she would consider playing the part again if it broke new ground.
During this last weekend’s Ace Comic Con Seattle, we learned what it would take to catch Atwell’s interest in returning:
“I wouldn’t want to go over old ground. It would have to be new; there would have to be higher production value so she could do more. I’d have to feel like it’s not just, you know, ‘a case a week with Peggy Carter.’ If she’s had an impact on audiences, let that impact grow, so it delights them, but I think it should be to do with more of the current climate now. What are smart issues to bring up? How to create any sort of kind of social weight, an emotional kind of gravitas to the show.
So I think on the principle of it, if somebody approached me with it, I would be appropriately kind of tentative about it.”
As a fan of her work I hope that either she is misdirecting so we’ll get a surprise appearance by her in one of these films or that Marvel Studios finds an idea that will motivate her to return.
