SPOILER ALERT: Obviously, this article pertains to ‘Avengers: Infinity War’, so if you haven’t seen it yet, you may wish to back away and return after seeing it.
The Hulk appeared in ‘Avengers: Infinity War’… briefly. Fresh off his exploits co-starring in ‘Thor: Ragnarok’, the green giant had his ass handed to him by Thanos at the beginning of ‘Infinity War’. After that, the rest of the film was basically the adventures of Bruce Banner, who piloted Tony Stark’s Hulkbuster armor while struggling to unleash his powerful alter ego.
Fans have been concocting their own theories regarding this super impotence problem, but co-director Joe Russo appeared on the Happy Sad Confused podcast and offered his own explanation. (And if anyone should know, it would be him.)
“I think people have interpreted it as Hulk’s scared. I mean, certainly, that’s not a — I don’t know that the Hulk is ever… he’s had his ass kicked before, and he loves a good fight. But I think that it’s really reflective of the journey from Ragnarok. Is that these two characters are constantly in conflict with each other over control. And I think that if the Hulk were to say why, it’d be [that] Banner only wants Hulk for fighting. I think he’s had enough of saving Banner’s ass.”
Looks as though The Hulk picked the worst possible time to throw a tantrum about not being appreciated enough.
But that only means that we should expect a major comeback from the Hulk in ‘Avengers 4’ when it arrives next year. In fact, that will be just one major comeback, as you should know from the closing scenes of ‘Infinity War’.
