We’ve all known that Brent Spiner’s Dr. Okun was set to return in ‘Independence Day: Resurgence‘ and the latest clip shows us that we’re not the only ones that are surprised to see him in the land of the living. Bill Pullman’s President Whitmore is also back and while awed by what is on the monitors in the room, he does take a moment to notice that Okun is there and alive.

In the trailer, we see those in the room watching aliens that appear to be screaming but Okun clarifies that they aren’t screaming but celebrating. You can check it out in the clip below!

So it seems that whatever hive mind connection that Okun established in the first film may not have been fully severed if he understands what it is that the aliens mean. How that will play out to benefit or hurt humanity with Okun up and around remains to be seen. Hopefully, for our heroes, we’ll see him being able to offer new insight into the alien hive mind and not just end up as a spy, saboteur, or translator for them.

Are you happy to see Spiner back in action as Dr. Okun? What kind of role do you suspect he’ll have this time around? Share your thoughts below!

We always knew they were coming back. After ‘Independence Day’ redefined the event movie genre, the next epic chapter delivers global spectacle on an unimaginable scale. Using recovered alien technology, the nations of Earth have collaborated on an immense defense program to protect the planet. But nothing can prepare us for the aliens’ advanced and unprecedented force. Only the ingenuity of a few brave men and women can bring our world back from the brink of extinction.

Directed by Roland Emmerich, ‘Independence Day: Resurgence’ stars Jeff Goldblum, Bill Pullman, Judd Hirsch, Vivica A. Fox, Brent Spiner, Sela Ward, Liam Hemsworth, Maika Monroe and Jesse Usher and will invade theaters on June 24.
