‘Avengers: Infinity War‘ is the first movie that really makes it look as if the Scarlet Witch is coming into her own but Elizabeth Olsen has a major bone to pick with the film. We’ve heard Chris Evans and Tom Hiddleston complain about their outfits in the past but this issue is a bit more revealing than the ones that they’ve had. The actress isn’t a fan of how much is not left to the imagination when she shows up on screen when it comes to her cleavage.
According to Olsen, this is the change she would love to see in her costume:
“It would just not be a cleavage corset. I like corsets, but I’d like it to be higher. Everyone has these things that cover them — Tessa Thompson does, Scarlett does. I would like to cover up a bit.”
While her costume is rather revealing, she at least knows that it is better than what the comics have long portrayed this superhero as. Not that it excuses the look if she’s unhappy with it:
“It’s funny because sometimes I look around and I’m just like — wow, I’m the only one who has cleavage, and that’s a constant joke because they haven’t really evolved my superhero costume that much. But then you look at where it started in the comic books, and it was a leotard and a headband so…oh, it’s horrible, it’s so horrible. So at least they know that’s not cool.”
For reference to those unfamiliar with how an original comic accurate Scarlet Witch would be:
While the current Marvel Cinematic Universe look is still a step up from that, she did already call out her counterparts in the Marvel Studios movies as having a more satisfying style. However, it is the name drop of another character that really stands out:
“They made Wonder Woman, you know? And that’s what she’s in. I think of the costumes and what we have to wear — it’s more about iconic images because that’s what these movies are… I think that’s the goal with the costumes, and it’s not representing the average woman.”
Bringing up the competition is one way to get Marvel’s attention and perhaps by the end of ‘Avengers 4’ or beyond we’ll see a new, more updated look for Scarlet Witch.
Do you agree with Olsen that the character would likely wear something more practical for fighting supervillains? Share your thoughts below, True Believers!
