Avengers: Infinity War‘ will likely soon become the top blockbuster in Marvel Studios’ 10 years of epic releases but it seems like the ‘Guardians of the Galaxy‘ director had some influence on the film. We found this out from writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely who shared that previous directors had input on the film though it looks like James Gunn may have had the biggest input on his characters.

We know that the writing duo has helped shape Captain America through three films and already had started to influence other significant characters thanks to ‘Captain America: Civil War,’ but that is nothing compared to what they’ve just put together. ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ had just about every major Marvel Cinematic Universe character so far so wanted to make sure that they got them right.

When it came to how Gunn influenced the Guardians in the film, Markus shared that:

“James’ contributions were primarily voice-related, to make sure that we are not rolling out people who bear no resemblance to people in the preceding Guardians movies. He was on board everywhere we were taking them. He adjusted one choice in the movie that didn’t really affect how the movie played, but it affected character a little bit. It was a very interesting choice, and first, we wavered on it, and then [Guardians star Chris] Pratt backed him up. And we acknowledged, if anyone knows these characters, it’s them.”

Marvel Studios has done a fantastic job at making sure that the characters stay true to form between the films and this shows how committed the creators are to both working together and making sure that the vision matches up for each of our heroes.

McFeely continued this thought by saying that:

“That’s the benefit of all of this. The filmmakers who spent a lot of time with these characters get to come in and help us make sure we are getting it letter perfect. There are 23 people on that poster, so there are going to be people who are slightly more expert at those characters than we are. So, we did that with everybody. [Doctor Strange director Scott] Derrickson and [Black Panther director Ryan] Coogler and Taika and [Ant-Man director] Peyton Reed.”

You really could feel that the characters were being portrayed as they had been in previous films. Any significant changes seemed to stem directly from the last movie each of these actors was in and fit the tone of what they would have gained or lost.

Are you glad that the writers for ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ were eager to listen to the other series’ creators? Do you feel that they’ve matched the tone of the Guardians of the Galaxy in the film? Share your thoughts below, True Believers!
