James Gunn Avengers: Infinity War

The one Infinity Stone in the Marvel Cinematic Universe that is unaccounted for is the Soul Stone.  Since Thanos will need all five stones to complete the Infinity Gauntlet, we’re just weeks away from finding out its whereabouts in ‘Avengers: Infinity War’.  Until then, fans are making their guesses as to where it will ultimately be found.  The most popular fan theory seems to be that it’s in Wakanda, which was something that was hinted at in ‘Black Panther’.  It is believed to be the source of Vibranium, the powerful metal that gives the nation its extreme power.  This is also supported by the fact that scenes from Wakanda were featured heavily in various trailers and that the cast of ‘Black Panther’ is prominently displayed on most promotional posters, magazine covers, etc.

Another theory that’s gaining steam is that Stan Lee, creator of most of Marvel’s most enduring and beloved characters, IS the Soul Stone.  While Lee will most likely make another of his popular cameos in this film, it is most likely just that.

And then there is a theory that has some credence if you are familiar with the comics– that the Stone resides with Adam Warlock.  Originally referred to as only Him, Warlock is one of Marvel’s most famous and powerful cosmic entities and served as the main protagonist in the original ‘Infinity Gauntlet’ and ‘Infinity War’ miniseries.  While Warlock has never appeared in the flesh in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, his introduction was teased in a post-credits stinger in ‘Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2’ when Ayesha (Elizabeth Debicki) states that she has created a perfect specimen and that she would name him Adam.  However, it appears that if Warlock does appear in an upcoming movie, it will be a ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ film, but even James Gunn isn’t sure that he will use the character in ‘Vol. 3’.

A fan posted this theory and Gunn immediately shot it down:

Being a Marvel insider, Gunn has seen the movie, so he knows.  But he may have known all along as last year when asked by a fan the whereabouts of the Soul Stone, he had this reply:

James Gunn

So let the guessing continue!
