A Quiet Place

Fun fact: ‘A Quiet Place’ was originally conceived as an extension to the ‘Cloverfield’ franchise, but that idea was scrapped when the script was found to be too similar to ’10 Cloverfield Lane’.  Well, ‘Cloverfield”s loss is everyone else’s gain.  ‘A Quiet Place’ opened to an astounding $50+ million and has gotten high praise from both critics and audiences.  It is already generating Oscar buzz, following in the success of last year’s horror hits ‘The Shape of Water’ (which won Best Picture’) and ‘Get Out’ (Best Original Screenplay).

Though the movie, directed by and starring John Krasinski, ended on a somewhat final note, could there be room for further exploration of this world, overrun by blind monsters with incredible hearing?  The screenwriters, Bryan Woods and Scott Beck definitely feel that there is a possibility of additional ‘A Quiet Place’ movies.  Woods stated, “It’s such a fun world.  There are so many things you could do.”

Beck added:

“Definitely…There are so many discarded set pieces, too, just hiding out on Word documents on our computer.  So, yeah, there are certainly so many stories you could tell. It’s just really, at the end of the day, who are the characters in this and what does this situation mean to that dynamic?”

For one thing, the creatures in the movie are never explained.  Where did they come from?  There is talk that they are aliens brought to Earth on a meteorite, but that is never stated in the movie.  There could also potentially be other survivors like the Abbott family.  Then again, it is possible that Emily Blunt could return along with child actors Millicent Simmonds and Noah Jupe and could perhaps attempt to rid the rest of the world of the alien (or whatever) threats.

Hopefully whatever happens, the sequel (or sequels) will retain the level of quality of the first and not just be another cash grab.  ’10 Cloverfield Lane’ did well at the box office, but got mixed reactions from both critics and audiences.  But the Netflix original ‘The Cloverfield Paradox’ was largely panned across the board.  Hopefully, ‘A Quiet Place’ series will fare better.

Would you like to see additional movies set in the world of ‘A Quiet Place’?  Would you like to follow the original characters or would you rather see something different?
