With Warner Bros. long wanting to reboot ‘Logan’s Run‘ it looks as if the film is about to take a major step forward by signing a couple of major names to the crew. While no cast has been publically announced at this time we’ve just learned that Peter Craig (‘The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1′,’12 Strong’) is set to pen the film while Simon Kinberg (‘X-Men: Dark Phoenix’) will still be in the director’s chair. While this will only be the sophomore movie for Kinberg as a director has been in production for years and had a slew of genre work under his belt from ‘Star Wars: Rebels’ to ‘Deadpool.’ Also onboard is Joel Silver (‘The Matrix’) as a producer.

The big news is Craig’s involvement.

Insiders are sharing that they’re hoping to be able to replicate the kind of reviews which ‘Blade Runner 2049′ and get the early buzz which Steven Spielberg’s ‘Ready Player One‘ has received.

The original film and likely this new one will be based on the novel by the same which was written by William F. Noland and George Clayton Johnson. It was initially published in 1967 with the film dropping in 1977, and yet the dystopian trend resonates now more than ever.

For those unfamiliar with the original work, ‘Logan’s Run’ follows a society in which to keep resources from being depleted, anyone over the age of 21 has their life ended. Logan is one of those sent out to enforce the policy and ends up becoming one of those on the run when he hits 21. The original film raised this age to 30, and it will be interesting what route they go here when it comes to that detail.

What happens when Logan goes on the run varies significantly between the two releases, which could allow for a very open interpretation of the story.
