As we draw ever closer to the premiere of Steven Spielberg’s film adaptation of ‘Ready Player One,’ the fan anticipation for the movie only gets stronger, meaning every detail they can get from the film is highly exciting, including a new movie poster released that is cool not only for the retro look (harkening back to the stylings of Drew Struzan, the artist who did posters for many classic 80’s films including ‘Indiana Jones and The Raiders Of the Lost Ark,’ ‘Back To The Future,’ and most of the ‘Star Wars’ films), but also also interesting for the new looks at many of the characters in the film and some other Easter eggs for those paying attention.
First up, hovering above it all is the wizard Anorak, the avatar of OASIS creator James Halliday, whose avatar is played in the film by Oscar Winner Mark Rylance, the avatar looking particularly surreal in the poster. Next we get a look at Simon Pegg’s character, Ogden Morrow, who is standing next to Halliday (in the ‘Space Invaders’ shirt), with Morrow being Halliday’s partner in the film. The poster also gives us a look at the Delorean used by Parzival with the modded KITT lights, with the High Five standing over it (the High Five being the first five players on Halliday’s quest scoreboard). And lastly, probably my favorite part, they included a pizza delivery drone on the poster, just to remind us of the strange future being presented, and the fact that some basic necessities will still be around. What do you think of the poster? Do you like the retro feel? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
And here’s the film’s synopsis:
Set in 2045, with the world on the brink of chaos and collapse. But the people have found salvation in the OASIS, an expansive virtual reality universe created by the brilliant and eccentric James Halliday (Mark Rylance). When Halliday dies, he leaves his immense fortune to the first person to find a digital Easter egg he has hidden somewhere in the OASIS, sparking a contest that grips the entire world. When an unlikely young hero named Wade Watts (Tye Sheridan) decides to join the contest, he is hurled into a breakneck, reality-bending treasure hunt through a fantastical universe of mystery, discovery and danger.
