‘Fifty Shades’ star Rita Ora is the newest addition to the eclectic cast of the live action Pokémon movie ‘Detective Pikachu’Ryan Reynolds headlines, as the titular yellow Pokémon.  The main human cast consists of Justice Smith, who will also be seen in the upcoming ‘Jurassic Park: Fallen Kingdom’ and Kathryn Newton, who stars in the HBO series ‘Big Little Lies’ which recently won four Golden Globe Awards.  Ora’s role has not been disclosed.  The cast also includes Bill Nighy, Ken Watanabe and Suki Waterhouse.  Rob Letterman (‘Goosebumps’) is directing based on a script by Alex Hirsch.  The film is currently shooting, so Ora’s casting comes fairly late, but it remains to be seen how large a role she has in the movie.

In the film, Smith’s character, Tim Goodman’s father goes missing and he must turn to Newton’s investigative reporter character Lucy and Detective Pikachu himself to locate him.

Ora’s ‘Fifty Shades Freed’ just topped the box office in the U.S. and many other countries.  In the film series, she portrays Mia, the sister of the male lead Christian Grey, played by Jamie Dornan.  That franchise, based on the SMBD novels by E.L. James has now crossed the $1 billion mark globally.

Ora may be better known a pop singer, though.  She is massively successful in the U.K., scoring the most #1 singles for the year of 2012.  In the U.S., her biggest hit was the 2014 single ‘Black Widow’ which was a collaboration with Iggy Azalea.  She also dueted on the single ‘For You’ with fellow Brit, Liam Payne (from the boyband One Direction) for the soundtrack of ‘Fifty Shades Freed’.

Her successful singing career has also resulted in her being a favorite celebrity judge on various U.K.-based reality talent competition shows and she hosted the 2017 ‘MTV European Music Awards’.  In the U.S., she assumed hosting duties on the revived version of ‘America’s Next Top Model’.

‘Detective Pikachu’ is due to be released on May 10, 2019.
