We know that the trailers for ‘Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom’ and ‘Mission: Impossible — Fallout’ will debut during Super Bowl LII and now a new rumor has ‘Solo: A Star Wars Story’ showing up as well. As potentially one of the largest non-Marvel movies set to drop this summer, it would be a prime spot to get our first look at this Ron Howard directed film.
There has been a lot of talk as to why ‘Solo: A Star Wars Story’ hasn’t been given a preview to audiences as of yet, and if this is the launch date it would suddenly make sense. Even so, the May 25th, 2018 release date is only four months away, and that is a really short time to start advertising for a summer tentpole movie these days.
The Superbowl is still the highest viewed television event each year, and for only a 30-second spot, studios need to pay out 5 million dollars. We know that Fox, Sony, and Warner Brothers are all sitting on the benches this year. Some could speculate it is from Fox being purchased by Disney, Sony is in financial trouble which could lead to selling their movie division, and Warner Brothers not yet set to preview ‘Wonder Woman 2’ which is their only viable DC property at this time.
Having other outlets such as social media these days does also vastly help get the word to just as many people on a much lower budget.
With that in mind, Disney is likely to be offering up ads for at least two other films during the show as well.
