A new ‘Star Trek’ movie was pitched by Quentin Tarantino last December, and if it ever sees the light of day, we now know that William Shatner would “absolutely” be willing to be part of it. Well, depending on the script that is. Captain Kirk is now the second Starfleet Captain in the running for such a movie. Last year, Patrick Stewart stated he would be willing to put on a Federation uniform in order to work with the famed director. At this time, we do not know if the movie Tarantino is planning will take place in the Prime or Kelvin universe or star pre-existing characters or use brand new ones.
With the project shrouded in mystery, former ‘Star Trek’ stars are being asked if they would be interested in appearing in the film. When someone pitched the idea to Shatner he stated:
“Depends on the script but if it was good then absolutely. Why not?”
While Paramount hasn’t greenlit the concept which Tarantino is developing with screenwriter Mark L. Smith (‘Revenant’), it does seem to have the wind at its back. Being able to bring either of these actors would be fun to see if done right, however, it would be hard to shoehorn Picard into the newly revised Kelvin Timeline where ‘Star Trek: The Next Generation’ wouldn’t have existed as we know it.
It also isn’t clear if this movie is being made in addition to a fourth ‘Star Trek’ movie which was initially rumored to have Chris Pine’s Captain Kirk travel through time and meet his father or be replacing it.
Would you want to see William Shatner play the part of Captain Kirk for one last voyage on the Starship Enterprise? What era and timeline do you think Tarantino’s movie is going to be set in? Share your thoughts below!
