We’ve all seen the meme where Christian Bale met Donald Trump while filming ‘The Dark Knight Rises‘ before the 45th President of the United States made his political bid and now we’ve learned a bit of the backstory behind the photo.

While playing Bruce Wayne in Christopher Nolan’s film, we saw Bale take on the part of a rich playboy. He was clearly portraying a person most of us wouldn’t want to meet, however, Trump’s response to the actor seemed exactly how Wayne would have been pretending to be like in the films.

According to Bale while he was on the Happy Sad Confused podcast:

“There’s quite a funny photograph that’s online. It was whilst we were filming, I believe it was The Dark Knight Rises, we used Trump Tower and we changed the lettering on the outside, it said ‘Wayne Tower, Mr. Trump arrived and, I’ll never forget the way he said it. He said to me, ‘You probably want a photograph with me so let’s get that done.’ And I turned and there was a photographer ready and I was decked out in full Bruce Wayne, you know, slicked back hair, red tie, a little bit of a Don [Trump] Jr. look, and we took the picture. And someone showed me it recently and it said, ‘American Psycho with Christian Bale.'”

For those unfamiliar why this was extra fitting, Bale previously played Patrick Bateman in the film ‘American Pyscho’ who was an investment banker heavily into drugs, women and working at being the perfect serial killer who never seemed to get caught.

According to Bale, the perfect touch to this comparison is when it comes to his ‘American Psycho’ character:

“Well, Trump’s his hero. I don’t know if I made that up or if it’s in the book, I think it’s probably in the book. But I could very much see him reading [Trump’s] The Art of the Deal.”

Entertainingly enough it was Bane from ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ that Trump, or at least his speech writer, seemed to associate with. In the movie, Bane says “and we give it back to you, the people” while Trump’s inauguration speech contained the line “We’re giving it back to you, the people.”

Do you feel that this is probably a very standard operating procedure for Trump when there was a celebrity around before his political aspirations became known? Would Patrick Bateman from ‘American Pyscho’ be someone who Donald Trump could get along with? Share your thoughts below!
