The first actor has been added to the cast of Amazon’s adaptation of the Dynamite comic book series adaptation ‘The Boys’ and interestingly, it’s not for the main roles of Wee Hughie Campbell, Billy Butcher or any of their teammates.
Erin Moriarty has landed the role of Starlight, a.k.a. Annie January, Hughie’s love interest, who is also secretly the newest member of The Seven, the most powerful super-team in this reality. Unfortunately, this team is not as squeaky clean as the Avengers or Justice League. Annie is formerly a conservative Christian but finds herself humiliated by the corrupt male members of the Seven when her costume is modified to be more revealing and she is expected to perform sexual favors for them. In her secret identity, she meets the sweet Hughie and they begin seeing each other, but neither initially reveals their other life to the other.
Living up to her name, Starlight can generate bright light and fly, among other powers.
Moriarty has already appeared on one comic book-based series, ‘Jessica Jones’ on Netflix, on which she portrayed Hope Shlottman. She may also be recognized for TV series such as ‘One Life To Live’, ‘Red Widow’ and ‘True Detective’ or the films ‘The Watch’, ‘Kings of Summer’, and the Mel Gibson action flick ‘Blood Father’.
Amazon ordered eight episodes of ‘The Boys’ based on the comic book created by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson. The show was created by ‘Supernatural’ and ‘Timeless” Eric Kripke, who also serves as executive producer and showrunner. Evan Goldberg and Seth Rogan will helm this series. They previously directed episodes of AMC’s ‘Preacher’ which is also based on one of Ennis’ comic books.
No date has been announced for ‘The Boys’ but Amazon has high hopes of this being their biggest genre breakthrough hit, to rival the likes of ‘Game of Thrones’ and ‘The Walking Dead’.
What do you think so far? Are you excited to see ‘The Boys’ come to life on Amazon?
