Prior to Marvel’s ‘Guardians of the Galaxy,’ fans of James Gunn know that he made his name in horror. Now, the famed director is returning to the genre that got him started as a producer on a new untitled movie that will be directed by his longtime friend and collaborator David Yarovesky (‘The Hive’). Gunn hasn’t actually left horror behind while working for Marvel Studios as he did write and produce ‘The Belko Experiment’ which was released earlier this year.
James isn’t the only Gunn involved either as his brother Brian and cousin Mark will be working together to pen the script for the movie. Production company The H Collective will be financing the film and produce with Gunn and his shingle Troll Court Entertainment. Brian and Mark Gunn will also be executive producers and will be joined by Dan Clifton and The H Collective’s Nic Crawley.
No word if Sean Gunn will be involved as of yet, but I doubt it would surprise any of us if he made a cameo.
It is hard to say how heavily involved Gunn will actually be as he is helping Kevin Feige spearhead the direction of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Phase 4 and beyond as they go further into cosmic territory. Specifically, he is currently working on the script for ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’ which will likely have expectations of quality similar to what we’re hoping to see in ‘Avengers: Infinity War’.
Production for this new horror project is set to begin in the spring so we can expect a name and other details to be revealed in the near future.
