Punisher

Jon Bernthal’s take on Frank Castle in ‘The Punisher‘ went well with both critics and fans and the quality of the show has paid off as Netflix has just signed the series up for a second season! While we don’t know what will happen in the long term of the show once Disney eventually gets their streaming service in place, but for the time being, we’ll get to enjoy at least one more outing with Castle which hopefully won’t be his last.

Initially introduced in the second season of ‘Daredevil,’ Castle is a man who is hunting for vengeance. While he initially appeared to gain it in ‘Daredevil’ and later in his first season it will be interesting to see what brings him back for another outing in his one-man war on crime going forward.

The last outing showed the introduction of fan-favorite Micro from the comic and Ebon Moss-Bacharach played him to perfection. We don’t currently know if he will continue to be a source of weapons and knowledge for Castle with whatever draws him back into action, but it would seem likely that he will end up helping to some extent.

The announcement came from Facebook which you can see right here:

While the season was able to close out and give us Ben Barnes’ Billy Russo as a villain for an upcoming season as the gangster Jigsaw, it isn’t clear if his return of the rise of Wilson Fisk as the Kingpin of Crime once again will be what factors into Frank’s decision.

What we do know is that showrunner Steve Lightfoot had a solid idea of where he wanted to take Castle moving forward:

“In the event of a Season 2, which I desperately want to do, we will very quickly find him a new war to fight. I think we left both Frank and Billy in places where there are so many ways to jump off from if that second season comes. We can do anything with them, in truth.”

With Frank almost looking to be turning over a new leaf it seems like there will have to be a new motivating factor to bring him out of retirement.

Are you looking forward to a second season of Marvel’s ‘The Punisher’? What direction do you think they’ll take Frank on his war on crime in this outing? Will he be going back up against New York crime families or will something else grab his attention? Share your thoughts below!
