Continuing the trend of ‘Iron Fist’ news for this week, we have yet more casting news for the sophomore outing of Danny Rand and his friends. It seems that Alice Eve, who fans may know from such acclaimed genre appearances as her roles in ‘Black Mirror‘ and ‘Star Trek Into Darkness,’ will be joining the cast of ‘Iron Fist’ for Season 2 in an unknown role.
It will be good to see some more fresh blood in the series, especially since we know Colleen Wing cannot do all the heavy lifting, and she was arguably the best part of Season 1. Another strong female on the cast is never a bad thing. Of course, whether she will prove to be an ally or enemy of Danny Rand and Colleen is yet to be determined, but for now, just having her on the show (not to mention the other new characters and the new showrunner) should help mix things up, and keep the show from returning to the sub-par roots it had in Season 1.
In the words of Marvel’s Head of Television and Executive Producer of ‘Iron Fist’ Jeph Loeb:
“We are very excited to have an actress of Alice’s stature join the cast of ‘Marvel’s Iron Fist. Her exceptional talent brings an intrigue and danger to her character unlike anyone else.”
Which is a sentiment very much shared by the other Executive Producer (and new series Showrunner) Raven Metzner (who is best-known for his work on ‘Sleepy Hollow’ and ‘Falling Skies’):
“We’re over the moon that Alice Eve is joining us this season. We think she’s going to be a great addition to an already stellar cast.”
Loeb’s words about Eve’s talent bringing “an intrigue and danger to her character” does make one think Eve might be playing a villain, which after the news about a casting call for a female assassin earlier this week makes me wonder how many female villains Season Two is going to have (especially if they bring back Madame Gao as well, which is rumored to be the case). While it would be fun to just see Danny and Colleen constantly fighting for their lives against wave after wave of assassins and ninjas, inevitably there is going to have to be some kind of story and acting from Finn Jones, and that is where we will really see if the show has managed to progress.
Here’s hoping Eve’s addition will help raise the level of acting of the other cast members of the show who were a bit lacking in Season 1.
