With many of The Avengers possibly not living past ‘Avengers 4’ there has been a question as to if they could learn the fate of Agent Coulson before they stepped out of the Marvel Cinematic Universe forever. Unfortunately, it is seeming even less likely that it will happen. There hardly seems to be time for it to occur in the already overstuffed ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ and as it probably won’t happen in ‘Avengers 4’ either that would leave it to Marvel’s ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.‘ on ABC. As we’ve just learned from executive producers Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen Whedon this just isn’t going to happen.
Not because they wouldn’t want to see it happen, just because they don’t see the A-Listers of the MCU slumming it on TV. When asked about an appearance they both chimed in stating that:
Jed: I think there’s definitely things that will never happen but…
Maurissa: I don’t I still don’t think we’ll ever have Iron Man show up on the show.
Jed: But, I think that you know, that the things that won’t happen are more just are based on sort of our tastes and our wishes. It’s not, you know, there’s certain things that I think are off the table. Just because we’re like, if we discuss them we go, nah. But no. Our entire show is based on a man coming back to life, and so from the beginning, it was very grounded. Out of the gate, it was not all heroes or super. But we’ve seen that that changes and we saw the framework last year that really anything goes, so it’s liberating for us to storytellers to know there are no rules, but at the same time we have to sort of set up rules for ourselves that the world makes sense, and it feels a piece and cohesive universe.
We already know that Clark Gregg feels that the Avengers have “moved on” from Agent Coulson’s death and while it could be a great scene to see them reunited, it just doesn’t seem to be in the cards.
Are you sad that both our heroes and Coulson will likely never see one another again? Do you feel that he should be able to run into at least one of his heroes before their time is up? Share your thoughts below True Believers!
