For anyone who has not been following the rumor mill about what the big CW Arrowverse crossover event is going to be about this year, it is going to be dubbed ‘Crisis on Earth-X,’ and will revolve around a storyline where the heroes of ‘Arrow,’ ‘Supergirl,’ ‘The Flash,’ and ‘Legends of Tomorrow’ have to face doppelgängers of themselves from a universe where the Nazis won World War II. Yep, its going to be a massive battle of the heroes against…themselves. I suppose that is the only real way to top a threat like the Dominators that they faced last year. And in order to get maximum impact from the doppelgänger situation, it seems they strove this year to involve just about every hero possible from all 4 of the shows, resulting in some tricky shots where they had an insane amount of superheroes on screen at one time. According to ‘Legends of Tomorrow’ star Brandon Routh:
“I have a limited adventure in the crossover, but I do get to work with a few people that we had a good time. The best thing that we got to do was the big gathering of everyone here in our world, on the Waverider, which was pretty awesome to have all of those superheroes together, and it was a really unique and fun thing which I think the audience will like as well…We used to get upset about have nine characters on the bridge and figuring out how to shoot that, but having 21 or whatever it was is pretty insane,” admitted Routh. “But Greg Smith, who was our director for our episode, knew what he wanted pretty quick. You have to have your ducks in a row when doing a crossover because people are coming from four different shows, like ‘We have Melissa for 2 hours and we have Grant for an hour, and we have Stephen for 30 seconds,’ so you’ve gotta get the shot!”
Various sources have named the number of heroes from 21-35, but recently Routh’s words (above) and executive producer Phil Klemmer have both said around 21-22, which sounds more accurate for the number of heroes we have met in the Arrowverse. The big names of course will be the Green Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl, White Canary, The Atom, Citizen Steel, Citizen Cold, Heat Wave, Zari, Vixen, Firestorm, The Ray, Vibe, Wild Dog, Black Canary and their supporting non-powered heroes like Felicity Smoak and Iris West. Tune in on November 27th and 28th to check out this year’s crossover event, which takes place over 2-hours on each night!
