Tom Hanks is one of the most beloved actors in all the world today. In fact, he might even be one of the most beloved human beings in the world today. And thanks to a 2016 Saturday Night Live sketch, he’s more remembered around this time of the year as David S. Pumpkins (especially since his animated special aired over the weekend). But today’s news involves less dancing skeletons and more robot bffs.
According to Variety, Hanks will star in an upcoming sci-fi movie called ‘Bios’. Set on a post-apocalyptic Earth, the story follows a robot that was built to protect its ailing creator’s dog. Over the course of the films, it will learn about love, friendship, and the meaning of human life. The veteran actor will play the robot’s creator.
The iconic star of ‘Toy Story’, ‘Forrest Gump’, ‘That Thing You Do!’, and countless other classics isn’t the only big name attached to this project. For starters, Deadline reports that Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Entertainment outlasted Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures to win an aggressive bidding war for the hot spec package. Then, Robert Zemeckis and Kevin Misher’s ImageMovers are attached as producers. And finally, the script written by Craig Luck and Ivor Powell will be directed by director Miguel Sapochnik, whose credits include ‘House’, ‘Falling Skies’, ‘Fringe’, ‘True Detective’, and ‘Iron Fist’. However, Sapochnik is best known for his work on ‘Game of Thrones’, where he brought to life the memorable Battle of the Bastards between Jon Snow and Ramsay Bolton. Now with most of the key players in place behind the scenes, the production is eying an early 2018 start.
Any questions? Well, these are just about all the answers that we have for now. But what do you think about ‘Bios’ so far? Are you excited about Tom Hanks’ upcoming project? Let us know in the comments.
