A new rumor has surfaced that states we’ll be seeing the shapeshifting Skrulls show up in ‘X-Men: Dark Phoenix‘! As we recently learned from James Gunn, this alien race is “co-owned” by Marvel Studios when it comes to movies and as their being introduced in ‘Captain Marvel’ it seems like the perfect time for Fox to bring them out as well. I mean, we all saw what both studios did when Quicksilver was being brought to the big screen.

It should be noted though that this is just a rumor. We’ve seen a ton so far ranging from the film being both cosmic and grounded, Magneto being a cult leader, and the introduction of Shi’ar! If the cosmic route is followed this would be as good of a place as any to at least introduce the race if not make them a major player in the upcoming conflict.

The latest rumor comes from “a source close to the film” who is claiming that there was recently a scene filmed that involved an alien attack as longtime frenemies Professor Xavier and Magneto were at a UN meeting in New York to discuss mutant rights. Instead of making progress though, the meeting is interrupted by a group of aliens which all had motion capture outfits on and the source heard the aliens being referred to as Skrulls.

Now, the site where this originated from had many of the scoops for ‘X-Men: Apocalypse‘ so I wouldn’t completely dismiss this coming from an unnamed source but it is the first valid report of the Skrulls invading Earth during the movie. It also puts us in a grounded situation that could evolve into a solid one which would further many of the prior rumors which we’ve heard to date.

Going the cosmic route could also bring a more interesting way for Fox to try and bring the ‘Fantastic Four’ back to the big screen as outside of Doctor Doom, many fan-favorite stories with Marvel’s First Family have been more cosmic in nature.
