After years of delays, it looks as if ‘Gambit‘ is finally going to see the light of day! February 14th, 2019, is going to be the perfect date night for comic fans as that’s the day we’ll all be able to check out Fox’s next X-Men installment! Gambit has long known to be a lover so it only fits that he would make his first big screen solo outing on a day that so many love, or hate, due to its connection to relationships. Fox has long held this spot for an untitled Marvel movie, and this is one of those rumored to take the spot.
We’ve also recently learned that the film is now set to be directed by Gore Verbinski (‘Pirates of the Caribbean’)! With the first outing of Gambit portrayed by Taylor Kitsch (‘Friday Night Lights’) in the 2009 release of ‘X-Men Origins: Wolverine’ (which we’ve all tried to forget), there won’t have to be any real previous performances to compare Channing Tatum‘s work to or base it off of. With the above-mentioned movie having been retconned, they can start the character from scratch and go with any of the comic iterations which have been introduced over the years.
Last we heard from Tatum he stated:
“We had a first draft; it was good. But I think that we were coming to sort of the end of that phase of it at a really interesting time, where these movies went through a bit of a paradigm shift, where the X-Men movies and the superhero movies, with Logan and Deadpool — that really broke down a lot of doors for us. So we were trying to do some things that we actually weren’t allowed to do, and they just smashed down the doors, and now we’re kind of giving it a rethink.”
Having already gone through two directors in Doug Liman and Rupert Wyatt mixed in with Tatum’s statement, it will be interesting to see if the script will be getting a full re-write or just made to be a bit edgier before filming begins.
Are you happy to hear that ‘Gambit’ is finally getting his own outing on the big screen? Do you think that we’ll see any of the other X-Men appear in the film? Share your thoughts below True Believers!
