the punisher

Over the past couple years, the Marvel Netflix series have seen an increasingly mixed reception, especially in the wake of ‘Iron Fist’. But if any recent addition to the streaming side of the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been unambiguously embraced, it has been the Punisher.

Played by former ‘Walking Dead’ star Jon Bernthal, Marvel’s iconic vigilante was introduced in the second season of ‘Daredevil’, which aired in the spring of 2016. From there, the Punisher quickly established himself as the breakout character in a season that often preferred to focus on developing plot threads involving the Hand (which would not pay off until ‘The Defenders’ arrived last month). It didn’t take long before a spinoff was given the greenlight, and now, a year and a half later, Marvel and Netflix are continuing their preparations for the show’s debut with a new teaser.

The latest teaser is brief and to the point. Most interestingly, it’s presented in a jittery, almost found footage style. Suffice to say, it’s a far cry from the more conventional action movie style that might be expected from the show. Instead, the footage on display offers something more akin to a horror movie. Whether or not this will be a typical approach for the series or just representative of a single scene,

You can find the teaser here:

The cast of ‘The Punisher’ includes Jon Bernthal, Ben Barnes, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Amber Rose Revah, Deborah Ann Woll, Daniel Webber, Jason R. Moore, Paul Schulze, Jaime Ray Newman, and Michael Nathanson. Though a specific release date has yet to be confirmed, ‘The Punisher’ is due to premiere on Netflix later this year. With Bernthal and other cast members scheduled to appear at New York Comic Con, it is likely that an announcement will be made at that time.
