jon bernthal the punisher

Last year, Jon Bernthal stepped in to play tortured serviceman Frank Castle in the second season of Netflix’s ‘Daredevil,’ to great acclaim and appreciation from fans.  Like yours truly, fans who have lived through Marvel’s attempts to bring the character to life via three vastly different “okay but not great” films have became quickly enamored with the current presentation of the character, so much so that The Punisher has received his own Netflix series, the first such series to come from the Marvel-Netflix relationship that was unplanned at the beginning of the process.

In a recent interview, Bernthal opened up about his “method” for bringing Frank Castle to life on screen:

“I don’t socialize, I’m not out at restaurants or bars or going to movies or anything like that… There are some actors that can be in the middle of talking about sports or having a hot dog and then jump in front of a camera and do the scene, and I’m just not that guy. I wish I was. I also think there’s something disingenuous about, you know, portraying this character after being at the nightclub all night. I want to honor him and the fans to whom he means so much. I really want to get this right for them, and the pressure’s on.

“I did this both this year and last year, but I’m on my own for, like, the first four months of shooting, so what that basically means is I’m away from my wife and my three young kids.”

Expected to debut later this year, fans won’t have to wait long to see more Punisher on screen; a specific release date has not yet been set, but ‘The Punisher’ is the next Marvel series due to be released by Netflix.
