It honestly isn’t too surprising that ‘Gotham‘ would start introducing an origin story for the Gotham City Sirens. Sure, most of those involved are a bit young, but we’ve already seen the characters grace the small screen. So just like many of Batman’s foes wouldn’t make an actual appearance until he donned the cape and cowl, why not introduce these women as a team early. I mean, we’ve already seen both Selina Kyle and Ivy Pepper becoming friends, so this isn’t too much of a stretch.
The word comes from showrunner Danny Cannon who says that Selina and Tabitha are “building up the Sirens’ origin story.” He did drop a major spoiler though. As we had last seen both Ivy and Barbara electrocuted to death, it is surprising to note that they will also be involved in the team. It isn’t clear if Barbara will still end up as a version of Harley Quinn or not though it has recently been said the character would never be on the show.
Cannon also went on to talk about how Selina is growing into womanhood as:
“We’ll be watching Selina turn into a woman, but what kind of woman will she be? Vengeful and resentful, or somebody of amazing potential?”
While Catwoman has mostly grown to be more heroic in the comics, she’s still a thief, so it will be interesting to see what path they put her on in the series.
The fourth season of ‘Gotham’ will air on September 21st, 2017 so it won’t be long until we see how this starts to play out. Knowing the long seasons though it might take some time until we get to this story arc.
