Spider-Man

For years Spider-Man was more or less the mascot of Marvel Comics, and when the Marvel Cinematic Universe kicked off and the company had to work without its arguably most iconic hero, many fans keenly felt the web head’s absence. Now that Spidey is finally making his way into the MCU thanks to the Sony/ Marvel deal, it looks like Marvel wants to capitalize on the use of the character as much as they possibly can. The latest rumors coming to us from Sony’s Amy Pascal, who has been all about talking Spidey with the press lately with ‘Homecoming’s’ release happening so soon, is that the next ‘Spider-Man’ film will be at the forefront of the MCU’s very next phase.  According to Pascal while she was speaking with Fandom:

“…we are starting now the next one which will start a few minutes after Avengers 4 wraps as a story.”

Before I continue, from this point forward, please note that this is all speculation.

Now, for a lot of us, this sounds like ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming 2’ (or whatever they decide to call it) will be the first film of the MCU Phase 4, and if those ‘Infinity War’ films end up killing off some major heroes (especially the ones whose contracts are coming due because they have already been in so many MCU films), Marvel could be looking for fresh blood to be the new face of the MCU if say, Captain America and Iron Man have passed on. And who better than their original mascot, old Spider-Man himself.

Who knows, we may even see Spidey have to lead a new team of Avengers in this phase while the world recovers from those ‘Infinity Wars.’ It could even be that Tony Stark isn’t training Peter Parker in ‘Homecoming’ to be an “Avenger” per say but to actually be his heir/replacement should something happen to him, seeing a brave and extremely intelligent kid (much like himself) in Peter Parker that Tony thinks could step up should Iron Man ever be taken out. Who knows? But I love the idea of Spider-Man having a much bigger role in the MCU going forward, and I hope you do too!
