It is old news that Josh Brolin will be playing Cable in ‘Deadpool 2‘ but producer Hutch Parker has shared how his inclusion will majorly impact the cinematic X-Men franchise going forward. Honestly, anyone who knows Cable from the comics can tell you he has been the center or involved in many of the mutant’s struggles since his inception. While he has had moments of being a background character, there have been countless arcs now where his prophetic visions of a changing future or returning to our time from one has kicked off a new major event.
So, of course, time travel will be the real kicker here when it comes down to it. Here is what Parker had to say about Cable’s role going forward:
“Well as you know, it’s kind of implicit in your question, it just opens a whole series of doors. I think that was part of what was so exciting of adding him to the mix is, not only what he brings as a character – and I think what I think Brolin will bring to the part, which I think was just brilliant casting – but it expands the landscape again and gives us more flexibility and opportunity which is one of the ways we can keep this franchise feeling vibrant and exciting and fresh – by introducing elements that are exciting and dynamic and different.”
Ever since ‘Logan’, my theory has been that if we ever do see X-23 come to the present, it would be using Cable and that is just a single example of what his abilities could mean for us. The other option is he is the perfect character that Fox has in their arsenal to once again reset the ‘X-Men’ franchise as they did with ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’ as changing history can have a butterfly effect going forward.
When the current set of actors are starting to come up on their contracts, and either doesn’t want to renew or become too expensive to do so, we now have Brolin’s character in place to hit the reset button.
