The New 52 is coming to The CW’s ‘Supergirl’ for Season Three. Odette Annabel will depict Reign, a villain that was introduced in 2012’s ‘World Killer’ storyline.
Annabel has starred on tons of TV series, including ‘Brothers & Sisters’, which coincidentally starred Calista Flockhart, who was formerly a series regular on ‘Supergirl’ as Cat Grant. It’s also the show on which she met her husband, Dave Annabel. She has also starred on ‘October Road’, ‘House’, ‘Two And A Half Men’, ‘The Astronauts Wives Club’, and most recently ‘Pure Genius’.
Executive producer Andrew Kreisberg issued a statement, saying:
“Greg [Berlanti] and I have wanted to work with Odette for years. We are beyond excited to have her join our cast in the scary, powerful and heartbreaking role of Reign.”
Reign will reportedly be the Season Three Big Bad, and her arrival was teased in the Season Two finale. In the comics, Reign and her fellow Worldkillers were created by Zor-El and the Kryptonian Science Council. Somehow, she and the Worldkillers survived the destruction of Krypton, although she isn’t sure how. She attempts to recruit Supergirl to her side but the young recruit refuses.
It’s just refreshing that the show is bringing in an actual Supergirl villain. Sadly, the Girl of Steel doesn’t have much of a Rogue’s Gallery (or supporting cast for that matter), all her own, so the show has had to draw heavily from Superman’s mythology and the larger DC Universe.
But as you can see, Annabel is beautiful and Rein is… not. Will the show alter the character’s appearance for the show? Or will they ugly Annabel up?
A return date hasn’t been set for ‘Supergirl’ or any of the other CW/DC shows. Melissa Benoist (Kara Danvers/Supergirl), Mehcad Brooks (James Olsen), Chyler Leigh (Alex Danvers), Jeremy Jordan (Winn Schott), David Harewood (Hank Henshaw/J’Onn J’Onzz) and Chris Wood (Mon-El) are all set to return along with Katie McGrath (Lena Luthor), who has been bumped up to series regular.
Are you familiar with Odette Annabel’s work? Are you excited to see her join ‘Supergirl’?
