Since the ball started rolling on Josh Boone’s ‘The New Mutants’, only two stars have officially been cast in the movie so far: ‘Game of Thrones’ star Maisie Williams and Anya Taylor-Joy of ‘The Witch’ and ‘Split’. However, a number of other names have been connected to the film and are rumored to be unveiled shortly. Now it appears that two actresses are in the running to play the mighty telepath Mirage.
Also known as Dani Moonstar, the Native American mutant from Boulder, Colorado has the psionic/psychic ability to telepathically create illusions of her opponents’ fears or wishes. She also has the ability to create a range of psionic weaponry. While she has been known to roll with a number of different X-Men teams over the years, the New Mutants was her first foray into a superhero dynamic. And when it comes to her live action counterpart, a couple of up and coming young adult stars seem to be the favorites to bring her to life.
According to Omega Underground, either Blu Hunt of ‘The Originals’ and True O’Brien from ‘Days of Our Lives’ could land the role of Mirage alongside Williams’ Wolfsbane and Taylor-Joy’s Magik. However, the outlet notes that Hunt recently followed director Boone, co-writer Knate Lee, and the two young starlets on Instagram. Boone even followed back. Could this be a coincidence? Most definitely, but you never really know.
Still, it’s probably best to take this news with a grain of salt and wait for the official word from the studio or the filmmakers. Until then, how do you feel about Hunt or O’Brien playing Mirage? Do you think that they would be good fits as the character? Or is there someone better that you have in mind? Let us know your thoughts and theories in the comments below.
