wonder-woman

Just a month ago, predictions were that ‘Wonder Woman’ starring Gal Gadot and Chris Pine, directed by Patty Jenkins would flop at the box office, following the lackluster reception of ‘Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice’ and ‘Suicide Squad’.  (Of course ‘Suicide Squad’ was better and was better received than ‘BvS’.)  Things appear to have shifted, as per Fandango, ‘Wonder Woman’ is now the most anticipated movie of the summer!

‘Wonder Woman’ is now trending over ‘Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell NoTales’…. which seriously, is ANYONE looking forward to this? Disney, that horse has been long dead.  Stop beating it!  ‘Wonder Woman’ is also trending well over ‘The Dark Tower’ and ‘Dunkirk’.

But perhaps more surprisingly… and impressively, ‘Wonder Woman’ is trending over ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ the first Marvel Studios-based film starring the wall-crawler, who (played by Tom Holland) made a major splash in ‘Captain America: Civil War’.

Fandango’s Managing Editor Erik Davis stated:

“It’s a thrill to see Wonder Woman command the top spot on our most anticipated summer movies list.  Early screening reactions are positive, with audiences responding favorably to the film’s exciting blend of action, adventure, humor and romance. Plus, fans have been waiting their entire lives to see a live-action Wonder Woman movie, and the film’s breakout star Gal Gadot makes it worth the wait.”

Indeed, the early reactions to ‘Wonder Woman’ have been overwhelmingly positive, with many saying this film will right Warner Brothers’ course with their DC Comics movies, which have met with muddled response from fans.

Not sure how to interpret this, but ‘Wonder Woman’ ticket presales are exceeding those of ‘Captain America: The First Avenger’.  But then again, that film preceded ‘Avengers’ which really kicked off the Marvel craze.

What do you think?  Are you anticipating the release of ‘Wonder Woman’?
