While there are plenty of reasons to be excited about the rebooted ‘Hellboy: Rise of the Blood Queen‘, we’ll always wonder what could have been with Guillermo del Toro‘s ‘Hellboy 3‘. Thankfully, Ron Perlman spoke a little bit about what we would have ended up seeing had the film gone forward with production. Unfortunately, not much is answered here as he is pretty vague to the plot points to the film and overall direction it would have been taking the franchise for an endcap to the trilogy.
The details came forward at this last weekend’s Motor City Comic Con where Perlman was sitting on a panel and was asked about the film.
First off he stated:
“The third one was meant to be epic and conclusive and a resolve for all these, almost, Greek oracle promises of the destiny of Hellboy. It would’ve made for a really good movie, I think.”
At the very least it sounds like his fate as the cause of the end of the world as we know it would have been looked at. This prophecy is something everyone wanted to know more about who haven’t read the comics as it is a cornerstone to his mythos.
As to the upcoming reboot of the film?
“David Harbour is a good dude. I wish him nothing but the best when it comes to the retooling of HB.”
Very noble of him though as willing as Perlman was to finish a trilogy, he also long expressed no interest in having to sit through that makeup process again.
Are you sad that we’ll never see how Hellboy’s cinematic destiny as the destroyer of our world will come to pass or how he would have avoided it? Share your thoughts below!
