It’s here!

We’ve been waiting with baited breath ever since Friday’s unexpected teaser, but now the first full trailer for ‘Blade Runner 2049’ has arrived. With the summer movie season just now getting under way, ‘Blade Runner 2049’ may not be the highest profile movie of the moment, but as the decades-in-the-making sequel to a science fiction classic, it nonetheless promises to be one of the most important and most hotly debated.

Like both of the teasers that preceded it, the trailer offers a broad sample of the film’s myriad environments. As befits a sequel to a film as visually distinctive as the original ‘Blade Runner’, they are, in a word, stunning. But of course, ‘Blade Runner’ is remembered not only for its visuals but also for a meditative, noir-tinged plot that often seems designed to defy analysis. And while the trailer is nothing if not cryptic, it absolutely offers a few hints at the direction the long-gestating sequel’s narrative may take.

The trailer is expected to debut in theaters ahead of ‘Alien: Covenant’ in a few weeks time. Until then, you can find it below:

From Warner’s official synopsis:

Thirty years after the events of the first film, a new blade runner, LAPD Officer K (Ryan Gosling) unearths a long-buried secret that has the potential to plunge what’s left of society into chaos. K’s discovery leads him on a quest to find Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford), a former LAPD blade runner who has been missing for 30 years.

Helmed by ‘Arrival’ director Denis Villeneuve, ‘Blade Runner 2049’ is due to be released on October 6, 2017. The film’s cast features returning star Harrison Ford alongside newcomers Ryan Gosling, Robin Wright, Dave Bautista, Mackenzie Davis, Carla Juri, Jared Leto, Ana de Armas, and Sylvia Hoeks.
