While Guillermo del Toro is known to have his hands on too many projects at a time one interesting dream project came up recently – Jabba The Hutt: A Star Wars Story. Don’t get excited as this isn’t a project that is happening but it would be the one film set in a galaxy far far away that he would love to tackle if he was ever offered it.

When talking about his body of work, the slew of projects in development, and canceled movies the iconic director was asked if he would ever be interested in tackling one in the Star Wars universe. He stressed that there wasn’t one on his plate or even being served up to him at this time but had the following little nugget to share:

“Saying all that caveat, I will say there’s some characters that are great, and I have talked to Kathleen Kennedy and John Knoll about ideas.”

While he did say it wasn’t in the cards right now, he did name drop two paramount names in Star Wars and stated that he told them about a mafia styled Jabba the Hutt standalone.

“I would do the sort of Godfather saga the Jabba the Hutt had to go through to gain control. One, because it’s the character that looks the most like me, and I like him. I love the idea of a Hutt type of mafia, a very complex coup, you know? … I just love the character.”

As we’ll already see a ‘Han Solo’ standalone next year and with the Hutts having popped up in other shows from the franchise this wouldn’t be completely out of the realm of possibility. However, at this time I wouldn’t get my hopes up. Even if it did end up getting announced we know del Toro’s track record of finishing films these days. What he can complete always seems to end up as a fan-favorite but the percentage of completed projects gets worse each year.
