You would think that with Rocket and Groot both heading off on their own titles for a bit and the rest of the team stuck in a bit of drama it would be interesting to see who ends up on the ‘All-New Guardians of the Galaxy’ but writer Gerry Duggan is dropping some hints as to what to expect from the title. First up though, we’re going to see that Star-Lord will have his usual friends with him as Gamora, Drax, Rocket, and Groot will all be on board. Apparently, that means the Groot and Rocket titles aren’t going to be running at the same time. Peter Quill’s team is often in trouble, but it seems that right off the back the Nova Corps will be chasing them down.

Anyone following Marvel is going to raise an eyebrow at that as Nova has been the only member for awhile but with Richard Ryder in the process of returning with a mutated Worldmind, the Corps might be back sooner than you’d expect. Of course, that is just the tip of the iceberg as Duggan says “In our first arc we’ll reveal more problems than we’ll solve.”

When talking about the Dynamic of these heroes when the new story kicks off, he says:

“At the beginning of our story, it may not be clear why some of the characters are acting as they are. The stakes will come into focus pretty quickly, and a long emergency is going to need to be dealt with. The team will push and pull itself in different directions, and it won’t be too long before the team looks…different.”

Honestly, different is likely an understatement. Gamora isn’t exactly thrilled with Quill after finding out he knew about Thanos being imprisoned on Earth and not telling her. It also wouldn’t surprise me if this different comment could be what leads Rocket and Groot to go off on their own adventures with new members signing on. Outside of just our heroes, though, he’ll be setting up a few cosmic arcs that will last quite some time:

“We’re starting several fires out in the galaxy that will threaten to spread. A few of the fires are being set by the same arsonist. That unknown subject will be one of this run’s big villains. You’re going to see some familiar faces turns up in some unexpected places.”

As to what kind of threats it is that they’ll be up against? Duggan won’t give specifics but does say:

“The Guardians are their own worst enemy at the moment, unfortunately, even worse enemies wait in the wings. Old cosmic foes. New cosmic foes. Hope you enjoy issue #1 and our Free Comic Book Day chapter on sale the first week of May. See you in space.”

I’m eager to see what cosmic threats are going to be popping up. Clearly from the image above it would appear that The Collector will be making an appearance and, let’s face it, he can’t be thrilled with Quill after the last time they met. Some of the newer threats in recent years have been a little lackluster, but there are plenty of familiar faces out there which we haven’t seen in awhile that could stir up some trouble.

We’ve also got a surprise treat – 4 unlettered preview panels showing off the artwork for the series!
