J.J. Abrams’ ‘Bad Robot’ has released some casting details for their upcoming film ‘Overlord’ and we suspect that it might be related to the ‘Cloverfield‘ universe. Paramount Pictures has provided a few details on this World War II-set film which is beginning filming in May and have revealed who will star in it. The movie itself “will follow a group of American paratroopers dropped behind enemy lines on the eve of D-Day. On the approach to their target–a village under Nazi occupation–they start to realize that there’s more to this place than a military operation.”

The movie is being directed by Julius Avery (‘Son of a Gun’) based off of a script by both Billy Ray (‘Captain Phillips’) and Mark L. Smith (‘The Revenant.’) It has just cast Jovan Adepo (‘Fences’) and Wyatt Russell (’22 Jump Street’) in the leading roles.

At first glance, it sounds like a typical World War II film which just has the mystery twist which Abrams films often include. However, digging a little further is where the ‘Cloverfield’ direction of the film might start to make sense. To start with, we’ve learned that with Abrams, Lindsey Weber will be producing and she also worked on ’10 Cloverfield Lane.’) Right now ‘God Particle‘ is still the ‘Cloverfield’ film set for release in 2017 and with the studio planning one a year and nothing else on the books for 2018 that would fit, this is likely the movie that will be part of the ‘Cloverfield’ universe.

With the time period we see here this could very well be the first movie to appear in the shared universe on the timeline unless we find out that it is an alternate dimension which is something hinted at in the ‘God Particle’ synopsis.

Do you feel that ‘Overlord’ will be the next movie in Bad Robot’s ‘Cloverfield’ Universe or are we reaching a bit too far with the teased “mystery twist” ending that has been hinted at? Share your thoughts below!
