Are you excited for the upcoming release of ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2’? Who are we kidding? Of course you are. And if you’re anything like us, you could use something to hold you over while you wait for May 5. Fortunately, Disney has just the thing.
Today, Disney announced a series of animated shorts that will be released in the lead up to ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2’. Dubbed ‘Rocket and Groot’, the shorts will follow the titular duo as they attempt to scrape together enough credits to replace their broken down ship prior to joining the Guardians.
The shorts have been animated by Passion Pictures, with a visual style based on the work of acclaimed comics artist Skottie Young. The ‘Rocket and Groot’ shorts are scheduled for release at a rate of one per day via the Disney XD app, beginning on March 27th. In addition to this, four of the shorts will be available on YouTube (beginning, like the app release, on March 27). The shorts will then be edited together for a broadcast premiere on Disney XD (the channel), which is scheduled for 7:00am ET on April 10.
In case the announcement itself wasn’t exciting enough, the first of the ‘Rocket and Groot’ shorts has been released online via Entertainment Weekly. You can find it below if you’d like to check it out.
