If you’ve been wondering how this season’s finale of ‘The Walking Dead‘ is going to play out, we now have a couple of clues as both the title and synopsis for the episode have been revealed. Obviously, this doesn’t outright spoil what we’ll see happen on screen but does provide clues as to the start of the episode. We know that the sixth season was titled the “Last Day on Earth” and for a few cast members it ended up being entirely accurate.

The seventh season offers a similar tease of moving past the current events, or starting on the road to that path, as it will be “The First Day of the Rest of Your Life.” Before even reading the synopsis, all I can think is that this will full of action that kicks off the eventual war which will take place between Alexandria and The Saviors.

The synopsis almost sounds like it doubles down on that idea:

The stakes continue to grow higher as paths cross; the group enacts an intricate plan.

It is set to run for an extra 25 minutes, so after we take out the 15-20 minutes of commercials they will add in to compensate, we’ll have a couple more minutes of intense action in. Since, as anyone who watches the series knows we only get action in the bookend episodes of each season.

Most of the seventh season has had the titles be actual dialogue from characters. This one is clearly either going to go to Rick as he gathers his warriors together or Negan in his smarmy, strutting nature who is welcoming someone new into the fold or killing them.

Showrunner Scott Gimple has previously said this about the finale:

“Well, there are losses. As the stakes get higher and higher… things start to get more intense and heartbreaking, and yet everyone has to sort of band together and keep going.”

It clearly doesn’t say which side the losses are on.

Will Negan take out more of our survivors or will some of The Saviors end up dead which finally kicks off the confrontation we’ve been waiting for? Do you think that this season’s cliffhanger could stir up even a quarter of the controversy of last season’s? Share your thoughts below!
