This isn’t an April Fool’s Joke ladies and gentlemen, ‘Mystery Science Theater 3000‘ is set to return on Friday, April 14th, 2017! The Satellite of Love will be gracing Netflix and any of us who plan on binge watching the show with a slew of movies being made fun of in “the not-too-distant future.” The above cast photo was also included which shows us quite a few new faces! While we’ve seen Crow T. Robot (who will be voiced by Hampton Yount), Tom Servo (voiced by Baron Vaughn), and Jonah Ray in his Gizmonics suit before this, we finally have a look at the rest of the cast!
I’m pretty sure that we’ll all enjoy Felicia Day as Kinga Forrester, daughter of original mad scientist Clayton Forrester and I can’t wait to see how she interacts with Patton Oswalt as Son of TV’s Frank.
As this is a type of a series that isn’t exactly a reboot but a continuation I don’t think we have to worry about the cast and crew recapturing the magic. Especially as series creator Joel Hodgson is so intimately involved with the production.
I look forward to seeing them riff on a whole new set of films!
Here is what Hodgson had to say about the announcement:
Joel here. It’s been a really busy couple of weeks, and we just finished our third (and last) “Red Carpet Kickstarter Screening” of the first new episode of Mystery Science Theater, Experiment 1101. I’ll tell you more about those very soon, but right now, I’m writing to share some very important news:
The new season of Mystery Science Theater 3000 will premiere on Netflix on April 14, 2017.
You know, I always promised that I’d tell you as soon as I found out, and Netflix actually just told me as we were finishing the Q&A session for our screening here in Los Angeles. So, I wanted to write and tell you right away.
Anyway, I’m off to meet some of the wonderful backers who came out for tonight’s screening, but I wanted to make sure you heard the news from me before you see it somewhere else. I’ll have more news for you soon.
And just so you don’t worry, we promise: if your rewards include the new episodes – or the livestream screening of the first new episode — we’ll make sure you have them by April 14, when the new episodes premiere on Netflix.
None of this would be happening without you. I’m really grateful.
Once again it looks like the Satellite of Love is going to be giving us some great laughs and I for one couldn’t be more excited!
Are you looking forward to the revival of ‘Mystery Science Theater 3000’? Do you think that we’ll get the same level of humor that has been delivered in the past? Share your thoughts below!
