It may feel like it has been a while since Samuel L. Jackson‘s Nick Fury has appeared in an MCU film, but realistically it has only been two movies since he was last seen in ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron,’ and it made perfect sense for him to stay of out ‘Captain America: Civil War’ (if he were there to be the parental figure, the fight might not have escalated the way it did, and then we would have missed out on a great film), and ‘Doctor Strange‘ was really not a movie that felt like it needed an international man of espionage to play any part in it. Still, Nick Fury has always felt like the backbone of the MCU, ever since he made that first momentous cameo at the end of ‘Iron Man,’ setting the stage for the all that was to come and whetting our appetites for the potential for a movie about the ‘Avengers,’ and he is a character everyone has been very interested in since. Which is why many have wondered if old Nick was ever going to get his own standalone film, a question that Samuel L. Jackson himself has wondered about, and brought up during a recent discussion with ‘We Got This Covered,’ where he also talks about how Fury might just how up in ‘Captain Marvel.’
“Yeah, I’d love to do a Nick Fury movie. I’m always open and game. But they got Infinity Wars, two movies to do there, and after that there’s Brie [Larson’s] movie Captain Marvel, which maybe [Nick] will be part of.”
It’s a bit odd that he does not mention a Nick Fury appearance in ‘Infinity Wars,’ but if those movies are truly as cosmic as they appear to be, there’s a chance the scope of it all might be too much for the superspy, hence why Marvel has chosen to let the character sit out the fight. Especially since Jackson’s contract with Marvel is only for 9 films, and he has already appeared in 7, they might just be choosing very carefully where they want his final appearances to be (before they make a new contract because, come on, its Samuel L. Jackson, you know he’s game to keep playing the role. Even if its pricey, these movies make enough money to justify signing him on for round 2). Do you think Fury will appear in ‘Infinity Wars?’ What role do you think he could play in ‘Captain Marvel?’ Would you want to see a ‘Nick Fury’ standalone movie?
