The time has come yet again for an all new Toy News Tuesday! We’re the one weekly column right here on ScienceFiction.com where we seek out all of the awesome news you need to know about any announcements and cool happenings in the toy industry and put them all in one easy to find place for you! As we bring the first month of the year to a close, we have a lot to look forward to! It’s only one month into the near year, and we’ve already had a ton of really cool new collectibles announced, making it easy to plan out our upcoming year of purchases! What is even better, is that it’s Toy Fair season! Last week was London Toy Fair, and in just three weeks we have the biggest toy event of the year, New York Toy Fair, coming up! While we wait, thankfully there is plenty to see in the Toy News for the week of January 31st, 2017!
Masters Of The Universe Classics Returns
When it was announced that Mattel was shuttering MattyCollector.com and licensing the ‘Masters Of The Universe’ brand to the team at Super7, many fans and collectors were worried about the future of the ‘Masters Of The Universe Classics’ line. With no real announcements from Super7 regarding the lines continuation, all hope for the line appeared to be lost. Fast forward to this week, when Super7 gave us all the kick we needed with four brand new ‘Masters Of The Universe Classics’ figures! Like the original Mattel produced line, the new Super7 ‘MOTUC’ figures are designed and sculpted by The Four Horsemen, and bring more of your fan favorite characters to this already massive toyline. The four new figures that will be releasing later this year are-
Fangor
The Evil Weapons Master of the Snake Men comes equipped with sword and snake-tools to aid in his construction of the fiendish serpent weaponry for his comrades. Fangor also comes with flying serpent accessory and alternate head.
Hawke
The Heroic Winged Warrior of Avion comes with sword, smoke gun and alternate head.
Lodar
The Evil Master of Slave City comes with his mace and giant chains.
Quakke
The Evil Mutant from the New Adventures of He-Man comes with his Grabatron Meteormace and two part Meteor.
There is currently no information available regarding these figures release dates, but Super7 has assured collectors that the new figures will come in packaging that is consistent with all previous releases in this line.
She Was His Queen…
Keeping up the momentum of their already super popular One:12 Collective toyline of 6″ scale figures, the team at Mezco have announced their new 1:12th scale Harley Quinn figure! This figure is based on Harley’s design from last summer’s live-action film adaptation of DC Comic’s ‘Suicide Squad’, and features a striking likeness of actress Margot Robbie. A Diamond Select Toys release! The Sorcerer Supreme and soon-to-be-cinematic superstar is the next Marvel Select masterpiece! This 7-inch action figure depicts Dr. Stephen Strange as he appears in the upcoming Marvel feature film, with a screen-accurate costume and the likeness of actor Benedict Cumberbatch. Sneaky Super Friends
While details on these are incredibly scarce and they haven’t even been officially announce yet, apparently Mattel has added a new ‘Super Friends’ themed sub-line to their 6″ scale DC Multiverse line! TNI is reporting that these two new figures turned up on an Ebay auction that is claiming that these were found in a Walmart in Canada, leading to widespread speculation that these are set to be Walmart (and possibly Canadian) exclusives! The packaging also shows Superman and Aquaman figures on the back, which means we can expect to see them coming sometime in the near future. It’s also worth noting that these figures are both repainted re-releases of previously released DC Universe Classics figures, so this is likely just an entire series of repainted popular characters. We will be sure to post any new information regarding these as more is released.
Go Big Or Go Home With NECA
This week the team at NECA have revealed to spectacular new figures that you aren’t going to want to miss! Whether you collect larger scale figures or just the coolest stuff you can find, it’ll be a little bit surprising if neither of these two recently announced figures is doing it for you.
From last years highly anticipated ‘Godzilla’ film series relaunch, ‘Shin Godzilla’, NECA has revealed their new figure of the titular monster! This new Shin Godzilla figure stands around 6″ tall and runs 12″ in length from it’s head to the tip of it’s tail. It also features 30 points of articulation that is all blended into it’s highly detailed sculpt! Shin Godzilla is set to hit stores this May!
If you’re a fan of the ‘Terminator’ franchise, you’re in for a real treat with NECA’s newly announced 18″ inch quarter scale T-800 figure! This figure is based on the T-800’s look from what is arguably the best film in the franchise (and generally one of the best movies ever made, if we’re being honest with ourselves), ‘Terminator 2: Judgement Day’! This 18” tall version of the machine from the future features the likeness of Arnold Schwarzenegger and has over 25 points of articulation, including ball-jointed neck, shoulders, elbows, torso, hips, knees and more.

The Funko Forecast
Get ready for the Funko Forecast! This is where we’re going to be showcasing all of the cool new announcements and reveals from Funko! With all of the awesome that consistently seems to be flowing out of those guys, it shouldn’t be hard to keep this section alive each and every week!
Marvel Netflix
While we knew about a few of these for a while, this week Funko released some new images for a Marvel Netflix wave of POP! Vinyls that includes characters from ‘Jessica Jones’ and Season 2 of ‘Daredevil’! Fans can look forward to new figures of Jessica Jones and Luke Cage from ‘Jessica Jones’, as well as an updated version of Daredevil, plus Elektra and The Punisher from ‘Daredevil’ Season 2! The Punisher is also going to have a chase variant available, so be sure to keep an eye out for him!
London Toy Fair
While we have New York Toy Fair coming up in just a few weeks, last week we had London Toy Fair, and holy crap did Funko pull the plug on the dam that was holding back all of their new releases!
