Mindgamers

What if you could suddenly share the mind and skills of a Stephen Hawking, Beyoncé, Usain Bolt or anyone and everyone on the planet? That is the basic premise of the film ‘Mindgamers’ and thanks to Fathom Events and Terra Mater Film Studios, audience members not only will get the chance to see the film before it’s nationwide release in May, but some will be able to participate in a live cognitive science experience while watching the film!

Dubbed ‘MindGamers: One Thousand Minds Connected Live,’ the live streaming cinema event will be shown in U.S. cinemas for one night on Tuesday, March 28, 2017 at 9:00 p.m. ET/ 8:00 p.m. CT/ 7:00 p.m. MT/ 6:00 p.m. PT, with playback at 7:00 p.m. local time for AK/HI.

An introduction from Tim Mullen and Mikey Siegel, both leaders in the fields of technology, neuroscience, and the collective consciousness will begin the night before the film is screened. While the film is showing, 1,000 movie theater audience members will participate in the experiment by wearing a cognition headband which will enable scientists to capture and collect data of the cognition state of the participants simultaneously via cloud technology in real time as they watch the film. After the film, a live Q&A and the first image of a mass-mind state (the likes and scale of which has never been attempted) will be revealed, thus driving the research into the nature of human cognition for years to come!

“This is truly a new experience for cinema audiences,” Fathom Events CEO John Rubey said. “To present live data from a collective conscious of moviegoers will be a fascinating and incredible feat, and we are thrilled to help bring this content to the big screen!”

“As a studio, we have taken on the challenge to create cinema that pushes new boundaries and goes beyond the ordinary,” Walter Koehler, CEO of Terra Mater commented. “’MindGamers’ is the creative engine to a world-first moment in neuroscience history, and we are proud to partner with Fathom and bring this to our audience live.”

The inspiration for ‘Mindgamers’ came directly from a real neuroscience experiment where two rats with their brains connected via a computer, were able to instantly share motor-skills. While the process is a bit of a ways off before it can be done between human minds, this special screening of the film will help science advance in the study of human cognition.

Tickets for this one of a kind event can be purchased online beginning Friday, February 3, 2017, by visiting http://www.fathomevents.com/event/mindgamers or at participating theater box offices. Fans throughout the U.S. will be able to enjoy the event in select movie theaters. For a complete list of theater locations, visit the Fathom Events website (theaters and participants are subject to change).

A group of brilliant young students discovers the greatest scientific breakthrough of all time: a wireless neural network with the potential to link every mind on earth via a quantum computer. Capable of transferring motor-skills from one brain to another, they have brought into existence the first shareware for human motor skills. They freely spread this technology, believing it to be a first step towards a new equality and intellectual freedom. But they soon discover that they themselves are part of a much greater and more sinister experiment, as dark forces emerge that threaten to subvert this network into a means of mass-control.

Directed by Andrew Goth, ‘Mindgamers’ stars Sam Neill, Tom Payne, Melia Kreiling, Antonia Campbell-Hughes, Turlough Convery, Oliver Stark, Dominique Tipper, Ryan Doyle, and Ursula Strauss and will be in theaters on May 2.
