After a period of ups and downs that left the project in a state of flux, principal photography on ‘Pacific Rim: Uprising‘ began in November 2016. Since then, there hasn’t been too many details released for the long-awaited follow-up to Guillermo Del Toro’s fan favorite 2013 robots vs. monsters movie. But thanks to one of the film’s stars, we have a never before seen image that may or may not reveal some elements of the story.
Recently, John Boyega shared a black and white photo on his Instagram of a jaeger standing idly next to a building as a helicopter flies by. However, it’s not just any jaeger. It’s most definitely one that we’ve seen before that we didn’t think we’d see again. Before we explain, check out the post below:
Your eyes are not deceiving you. That is indeed the jaeger known as Gipsy Danger. If you’ll recall, this is also the same jaeger that entered the Breach at the end of the first movie and acted as a nuclear bomb when it self-destructed to seal the kaiju’s entryway into our world. So why is Boyega sharing a picture of it? Well, one possibility is that we’ll see a new version of the old jaeger built for Boyega’s character, who is said to be the son of Idris Elba’s Marshal Stacker Pentecost. Maybe we’ll even see the younger Pentecost team up with Rinko Kikuchi’s former Gipsy Danger pilot Mako Mori. Since they both are connected via Marshal Pentecost, it’s possible that they’re drift compatible. But this is all just a theory at this point. Let us know why you think Gipsy Danger stands tall in this picture in the comments below.
‘Pacific Rim: Uprising’ starring John Boyega, Rinko Kikuchi, Charlie Day, Burn Gorman, Scott Eastwood, Cailee Spaeny, and Jing Tian emerges from the Breach on February 23, 2018.
