Introduced in ‘Star Wars: The Clone Wars‘ animated series and made a star to audiences everywhere in ‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story,’ we’ve just learned that Saw Gerrera will be returning in future Star Wars projects! We already had learned that he would be showing up in ‘Star Wars Rebels‘ in the near future to give more of his backstory and possibly tell the tale of why he split from the Rebellion. However, it seems that might not be the only place we see him show up.

According to Kathleen Kennedy:

“To be honest, we originally thought we were going to develop Saw into something much larger, but we couldn’t accommodate it. So he is not in the movie as much as we would like to have him in the movie, which creates the opportunity to explore his character even further in our future development.”

With ‘Star Wars Rebels’ being one outlet where it appears Whitaker will voice the character again it seems as if the actor wouldn’t mind seeing what else could be done:

“I’m curious about what else they’re about to do. Because they seem to really like the character, which is great!”

Could he try to recruit a young Han Solo to his side of the Rebellion or even hire the young smuggler to transport cargo? There are plenty of areas where having Whitaker pop in could make for a fun film and as the success of a war-themed take on this standalone proved, audiences would like to see more of the rebellion taking on the Empire. So, why not the most extreme rebel taking it on as well? This could clearly be a fantastic spinoff film for Lucas Film to think about if they decide to film it sooner than later.

Sadly, my money is at the most we’ll be seeing of him is in ‘Star Wars Rebels’ and perhaps a spinoff comic or novel. Still, we can have hope that a film will be made and we all know that having a new hope is no small matter in a galaxy far far away.

Are you looking forward to seeing more of Saw Gerrera in the future of ‘Star Wars’? Do you think we’ll be able to see Forest Whitaker play the character again or just voice him? Share your thoughts below!
