Marvel Television made some major waves when it was recently announced that ‘Inhumans’ would be an ABC television series that would debut in IMAX theaters rather than a traditional film. Though many things remain uncertain about details surrounding the show at the moment, one thing that is for sure is that Vin Diesel probably won’t be playing Black Bolt now. The actor (who already lends his voice to the lovable Groot from ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’) has been rumored to play the character for some time, but with the format change, it’s pretty doubtful that he will venture to that corner of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Luckily, there is someone out there who is looking to go from King of the Ring to King of the Inhumans.

In a recent interview with Bleeding Cool to promote his Ring of Honor appearances this weekend in New York City and Philadelphia, former WWE Superstar Cody Rhodes (or simply “Cody” as he’s known on the indie wrestling scene due to WWE owning the copyright to his name) revealed that he would love to play Black Bolt in the upcoming Marvel show. Though the role doesn’t require much dialogue, the Son of the Son of a Plumber lauded the head of the Inhuman Royal Family as “one of the best characters in all comics”. He then revealed that he and his team are doing everything they can to get him considered for the part:

“The idea that a simple, spoken word could blow a room up is just… I dig everything that is Black Bolt. [And] I will fully disclose that I have been actively pursuing a couple of roles, [Black Bolt] being one. I now have uprooted, moved to LA, to look into acting more, especially after the ‘Arrow’ episode. So that would mean the world to me if that were to happen. And we’re actively looking into it. I’m all about it.”

Overall, I’d say that the wrestler formerly known as Stardust has a fair shot. Rhodes certainly has the physique to play Black Bolt. He also has a strong chin to fill out that cowl and emotive eyes to make up for the lack of dialogue. And due to his day job, we know that he can handle the action. But the question now is whether Marvel Television Head Jeph Loeb and whoever else has a hand in this agrees with me. I mean, Kevin Feige and Marvel Studios found a gem from professional wrestling in the form of ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2’ star Dave Bautista. There are even rumors that John Cena might join the MCU in ‘Thor: Ragnarok’ after his scene-stealing appearances in ‘Sisters’ and ‘Trainwreck’. Time will tell whether Cody Rhodes will be the next person to make the jump from the WWE Universe. Until then, let’s hear what you think about this potential casting in the comments below.
