This Christmas, ‘Doctor Who’ is returning to our TV screens for the first time in a year, the longest break in production since the show’s revival in 2005. While the show’s Christmas specials have become something of a tradition, it’s safe to say that this year’s hiatus has rendered the aptly titled ‘Return of Doctor Mysterio‘ one of the most anticipated specials to date.
While we’ve known that the special would, of course, air on Christmas day, the BBC has now confirmed the episode’s timeslot, which will be 5:45pm on BBC1. In addition to that, they have also released the following official synopsis for the special:
This Christmas sees the Doctor join forces with a masked superhero for an epic New York adventure.
With brain swapping aliens poised to attack, the Doctor and Nardole link up with an investigative reporter and a mysterious figure known only as The Ghost. Can the Doctor save Manhattan? And what will be revealed when we see behind the mask?
‘Doctor Who’ will return on Christmas day with the broadcast of ‘The Return of Doctor Mysterio’, which will also be screened in select cinemas on December 27th and 29th. After that, the series will go back on hiatus until spring 2017, when producer Stephen Moffat kicks off his farewell season, which will culminate in next year’s Christmas special. In addition to returning star Peter Capaldi, the upcoming season and specials will feature Pearl Mackie, Matt Lucas, Justin Chatwin, Charity Wakefield, Tomiwa Edun, Aleksandar Jovanovic, and Logan Huffman.
